The Employment Eligibility Verification form, also known as the I-9, is becoming “smarter” and will be released November 22, 2016 and the former version will be valid until January 21, 2017. The new smart I-9 allows for employers to fill out the form electronically via the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’s website. The electronic form has features such as drop down menus, hover text with instructions, and real time error messages, that aim to reduce common errors. Employers will still need to print these forms for necessary signatures. Of course, employers can still print and fill out an Adobe PDF version if they so wish.
